Christmas lights to go on at Sun City on 2 December 2015

North West province locals and holidaymakers to Sun City in December should diarise the Christmas Lights Switch On ceremony set to take place on Wednesday, 2 December 2015. With the fanfare and excitement with which this event has become known, the festive lights will be switched on simultaneously across the resort and as the lights on the giant Christmas tree outside the Welcome Centre and the newly erected SunStar spring to life.
The SunStar is a 30 foot high sun sculpture created from the remnants of the fence that once surrounded Robben Island. Sponsored by Sun International, SunStar was created by visionary Cape Town-based artist, Christopher Swift and was erected on the top of Signal Hill in Cape Town to mark the late former president Nelson Mandela’s birthday. It has now come to rest at Sun City.
Part of the Nedbank Golf Challenge build up, the lights will be turned on by thedefending champion, Danny Willett. He will pull the lever with the help of a child from Reach for a Dream. Visitors attending the event will be treated to entertainment during the countdown to the switching-on of the lights which starts at 18h00.
Sun City promises the ultimate Summer Escape during the upcoming festive season with a jam-packed lineup of artists and shows, including a concert by award winning house band, Mi Casa; the outrageously funny stage production, Defending the Caveman; Carols by Candlelight, and New Year’s Eve celebrations at venues across the resort.
Sun City’s vibrant bars and lounges, including Luma Bar & Lounge at the Cascades, Harlequins at Sun City Hotel and Traders Sports Bar at the Entertainment Centre, will also feature free live entertainment on certain nights.
