Sun International Sun City’s food and beverage landscape continues to evolve


The food and beverage landscape at Sun City continues to evolve in order to align with the ambitious revitalization of the iconic resort. Inextricably linked with the overall experience guests receive while visiting Sun City, the food and beverage rejuvenation now delivers guests greater diversity, quality and value.

Renewed emphasis has been placed on redesigning and owning hospitality at Sun City to offer more distinctive dining experiences which will ultimately re-establish Sun City as destination for gastronomical adventure. While trusted family restaurant brands have established their roots at Sun City, offering familiarity and value for money, the reimagining of the food and beverage offering has been largely characterized by the opening of several signature restaurants, exclusive to the resort.

“Food and beverage has entered an exciting new era at Sun City. It’s no longer just about giving guests a choice of restaurants to eat at. It is about creating distinctive experiences that reflect the dynamic and diverse character of Sun City, as well as the millions of people who visit us annually.

“Food is entertainment. It is intrinsic to South Africa’s vibrant social culture. This is what we want people to experience at Sun City. Whether guests are here on business or holiday, or just for the day, food is integral to the Sun City journey and great memories. Food offers us a platform for creating special moments that live in our guests’ hearts. It must be exceptional,” says Craig Tibbit, Group Executive: Food & Beverage Operations.

A team of experts was put together within Sun International and Sun City’s food and beverage department to reengineer the resort’s offering. Various new restaurants and outlets have opened in the past year. Amongst these are the newly opened and/or revamped signature Sun City restaurants, Bocado at the Cascades, Legends at the Sun City Hotel, The Grill Room at The Palace and The Brew Monkey at the Valley of Waves.

People are key to bringing to fruition the vision to establish Sun City as a foodie destination – a place to journey authentic culinary experiences.

“Guests want more than just exceptional service. They want genuine hospitality, real characters, great food. Our people are crucial to this. As such, we are training and engaging our employees to ensure that they understand and deliver on this promise of genuine hospitality,” he says.

The metamorphosis of Sun City’s food and beverage is not yet complete. There is still more to come, with continuing product enhancements and the introduction of additional new restaurants with the reopening of the Entertainment Centre later this year.

“The new Entertainment Centre will be a state of the art offering with new restaurants and superlative conferencing facilities and services. We have so much more in store,” says Tibbit.
